Update on Insurance and Pension

Insurance: I received a checkbook for a line of credit from Mutual Omaha. It was originally for $22,500 -which surprised me a bit. After talking with Suzanne from Midland County, she contacted Mutual and they have since increased the amount to $25,000 (apparently once Norma turned 70, the value dropped by half).

I have paid the funeral home & am not sure whether I should reimburse myself for Memorial Gardens from this money or if that should come from estate money. Also, I will ...

Preliminary Estate Inventory

Another next step in the probate process is compiling an inventory of Aunt Norma's assets. Here is a preliminary list (not including the house and monetary assets).

Please weigh in on the estimated values or add things we may have forgotten (Diney and Mom helped me with the list):

1. furniture = $350

2. TV = $250

3. pocket watch = $250

4. hot chocolate set = $250

5. china = $200

6. silver = $150

7. collectible spoons = $?? (Jon, can you do some research on eBay or Amazon and ...

Estate Account

The P.R. paperwork is completed and the next step is to open the estate account. My credit union here in VA will allow us to open the account here even though the estate is in MI (this is what I was calling about on Thurs AM, Uncle Woody).

Since Uncle Woody is taking care of the lawn-mowing, trash-hauling, brush-clearing at Aunt Norma's house, I will take care of the paperwork related to the estate account and getting Aunt Norma's monetary assets transferred into the account (Chemical and ...

Estate split

There is one issue that I think we left undecided in our conversations - the estate "split" - that is whether it should be a 4-way sibling split or a 9-way split to include all nieces/nephews (I believe the understanding was that if we did a sibling split, those with children could pass on inherited dollars/goods to them). I think this was left hanging.

Since our discussion, we have some new information. The employer-provided benefits (life insurance and retirement/pension) are ...

Walt and Uncle Dick

Walt took Uncle Dick to the Lawyer today. Dick signed the paperwork for the PR. They explained the idea of a trust for him and he was agreeable. Walt received the appraisal on the house at $35,000. All of the junk is gone. Pam and Willie filled the dumpster and then they (Walt and Willie) made more 2 trips to the dump with 2 vehicles. Walt and I made 1 more trip the following week. The ladies from work came and took all of the items from the living room except the books and items to be kept. ...
