Preliminary Estate Inventory

Post  Admin on Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:24 pm

Another next step in the probate process is compiling an inventory of Aunt Norma's assets. Here is a preliminary list (not including the house and monetary assets).
Please weigh in on the estimated values or add things we may have forgotten (Diney and Mom helped me with the list):
1. furniture = $350
2. TV = $250
3. pocket watch = $250
4. hot chocolate set = $250
5. china = $200
6. silver = $150
7. collectible spoons = $?? (Jon, can you do some research on eBay or Amazon and see what people are paying for these?)

Thanks, y'all!

All,

Based on the research I've done on Ebay, people are selling individual "collectible" or "souvenir" spoons for around $1 per spoon. I can also call around to collectible shops to see if any might be interesting in purchasing either a few or the whole collection.

I called a few collectible shops around this area and found out that a few of them do buy spoons, but only if they are sterling silver. The price is based on the value of the silver. Would someone be able to check the spoons to see if they are, in fact, silver?

spoons

Post  Diane on Thu Sep 25, 2008 4:21 am

My guess is that few are sterling silver. Some are probably silver plate (noted by the tarnish). Most are spoons bought in gift shops (at least I know a few were ones I bought on trips & sent to Norma) for a few dollars at most. Is that helpful?

Yeah, that's what I thought...just wanted to be sure. In that case, they would probably go online for about a buck a piece.

The updated list looks good to me. I'm unable to think of any other items that should be added.

i have done a little research on china/silver & your prices look good. I found china that looks the same to me (Hutchenreuther Apart pattern) - and found a "buffet set" with something like 38-40 of each piece - the price was in the $700's. So, given what I can recall about the amount of white china there, the list price seems right.

The cocoa set was very difficult since I didn't know a maker or pattern. I looked up some "Prussian" cocoa sets and again, the price listed seemed in line. I hope this is helpful.
