Update on Insurance and Pension
Insurance: I received a checkbook for a line of credit from Mutual Omaha. It was originally for $22,500 -which surprised me a bit. After talking with Suzanne from Midland County, she contacted Mutual and they have since increased the amount to $25,000 (apparently once Norma turned 70, the value dropped by half).
I have paid the funeral home & am not sure whether I should reimburse myself for Memorial Gardens from this money or if that should come from estate money. Also, I will take on the responsibility of finding out about a headstone (unless someone else has that information).
Pension/retirement: I have been informed by Midland County that it is not possible to pay a lump sum payout. The retirement will be paid to me on a monthly basis -- like I was a surviving spouse -- for the rest of my life (I know, weird, huh?). So that is not going to work the way I had assumed in terms of splitting. I do not yet know the amount or when (probably November or December). As this becomes clearer, I will come back.
